Os Mutantes WAH
Legend has it, the Regulus VIII fuzz pedal was made by Claudio Dias for his brother Sérgio Dias from Brazilian rock band Os Mutantes.
The Regulus VIII is similar to a silicon Fuzz Face, but way more harsh & trebely. The 1st part of this build is a standard Regulus VIII clone, complete with a hi/low tone control switch.
The second half of this effect is a clone of the Park Auto Wah. Made in the 1960’s, it may be the oldest Auto Wah out there. It reacts dynamically to volume changes coming into the pedal, so harder strums will sweep to the higher frequencies, while softer strums will have a subtler wah effect.
In my opinion, the Park Auto Wah on it’s own is pretty boring, but when it’s placed after the Regulus VIII (on a momentary switch) it is a ton of noisy, dissonant fun!
